THE DEPARTMENT 

The Division of University Advancement is one of five current central divisions of the university whose primary purpose is to enhance the private support of the university. University Development develops programs, events and activities that stimulate the interest, involvement and support of alumni, friends, parents, corporations and foundations. The office of Corporate and Foundation Relations manages the private corporate and foundation support for the campus including the active research, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship process.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director of Major Gifts and Core Presidential Support, the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations works to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gifts from corporations and foundations. The Director provides leadership and coordination to the campus in approaching corporations and foundations for major gifts and strategic partnerships, working closely with deans and development colleagues and communicating actively with the campus community. The incumbent designs, implements, and manages a comprehensive proactive corporate and foundation development plan; directs and coordinates activities related to increasing the visibility of the University among corporate and foundation prospects; serves as a major gifts officer; and develops highly competitive proposals for corporate and foundation prospects. The incumbent monitors proposal deadlines, prepares and edits proposals, and manages proposal submissions; maintains high quality stewardship process for active corporate and foundation prospects and donors; ensures that stewardship and reporting requirements are met to sustain successful long-term partnerships; conceives strategic initiatives which meet the needs of the University and engage institutional partners in meaningful programs. The incumbent researches, analyzes and develops a comprehensive corporate and foundation fundraising plan for the University; identifies emerging business leadership and industry trends; initiates opportunities for faculty, administrators, and deans to interact with corporate and foundation prospects; and responds to corporations and private foundations in a timely manner with accurate information to maintain and strengthen positive relationships with donors; and performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate must have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university AND a minimum of five (5) years experience in higher education or equivalent public sector work, including a successful track record in fundraising from corporations and foundations. Knowledge of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies and techniques, particularly in the area of corporate and foundation fundraising techniques; demonstrated ability in grant and proposal writing at appropriate levels for varied proposal development; and demonstrated knowledge of methods, practices and procedures for obtaining information about the giving programs of corporations and foundations. The candidate must have demonstrated ability to take primary responsibility for a diverse number of projects and to complete them in a timely manner with limited supervision; demonstrated record of success in generating significant commitments from corporations and foundations; ability to maintain a high level of poise, reflecting the highest standards of professional conduct and integrity in all circumstances; and the ability to initiate and build relationships with prospective corporate and foundation donors, and interact via telephone and in person with institutional representatives. The successful candidate must be self motivated and disciplined with the ability to regularly set and achieve work goals; ability to work effectively with a diverse group of staff in a team environment and the ability to travel regionally and nationally to cultivate and solicit corporate and foundation support.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Advanced academic degree. Superior verbal and written communication skills and an understanding of the dynamics of corporate and foundation giving and ability to relate well to respective leaders are desirable.

The salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
