THE DEPARTMENT 

The Dean of Students Cluster is a group of administrative units within the Division of Student Affairs whose primary mission is to provide support for co-curricular activities and experiences for Cal Poly Pomona students. In addition, the Cluster is responsible for ensuring that students and their leaders adhere to University policies and procedures. Included in the Cluster are: ReEntry and WoMen's Resource Center , the Office of Student Life and Cultural Centers and Judicial Affairs. The cluster also works closely with University Housing Services and Associated Students, Incorporated to ensure that programs and services are connected with those in other programming areas.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

The Director of Judicial Affairs ensures a fair, just and impartial disciplinary process for students charged with violating the Student Code of Conduct, with a goal of providing information and resources to achieve a community of respect, civility and integrity for all members of the community. The incumbent coordinates the University's student discipline and student grievance procedures; reviews recent federal, state and local legislation and court of appeal and Supreme Court decisions to determine implications for the University; actively assists faculty, staff, administrators and students in locating, interpreting and applying University and CSU policies, regulations and directives as they apply to student matters; and routinely makes presentations to classes, student groups and faculty on matters of University policy, safety and the broad issues of civility. The Director of Judicial Affairs consults with the General Counsel for advice and opinions pertaining to student related matters; investigates and responds to correspondence, telephone, email and/or personal contacts from members of the University community and the community at large; assists in crisis intervention for students and assists other administrators and faculty in crisis management, including protests, threats, illness, dangerous behavior and the like; maintains quality web page with critical information on Judicial Affairs matters, and prepares grant requests for Student Affairs and Judicial Affairs related opportunities. The incumbent serves on various University, Division, and ASI committees; supports other cluster activities; assists with planning, development, and implementation of First Year Experience Programs in each of the Colleges; and writes and updates policies and procedures. The incumbent serves as primary advisor, back up advisor, and liaison to numerous ASI committees, boards, and councils; assists with leadership, training, and student development programs; other ad hoc committee assignments; and represents the AVP & Dean of Students, as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Masters degree in a related field;
  • minimum of five years of related student services experience in a four-year university or college;
  • experience in event planning and management ;
  • experience in student development and advisement;
  • superior written and communication skills;
  • excellent skills in conflict resolution;
  • demonstrated ability to work with a diverse campus population.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Ability to interact with students, faculty, administrators, staff and community members in a collegial manner;
  • basic knowledge of event planning and production.

The salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
