John L. Korey Profile
John L. Korey was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1944, and grew up in Brooklyn and Garden City, NY. He received his bachelor's degree in government from Georgetown University in 1966 and his Ph.D. in political science from the University of Florida in 1971. Except for serving as a visiting professor at Cal State Los Angeles in the mid 1990s, he taught political science at Cal Poly Pomona from 1971 through 2011. He is the author of a textbook on California Government (5th edition, Wadsworth, 2009). As a quasi-hobby, he designs websites, including the POWERMUTT Project, a kind of online introductory research methods textbook. He serves on the Cal State University Social Science Research and Instructional Council and from 2000 until 2004 was on the council of the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research.
In 1968 he married the the former Mary Haggerty, who received her bachelor's degree in economics from Trinity College (Washington, DC) in 1967 and her MBA from Cal Poly Pomona in 1982. Until her retirement in 2011, she was Managing Director of Investments at the Automobile Club of Southern California. They have two children (Meghan Lukasik and David Korey) and five grandchilden (Kira Lukasik, Sean Korey, Aidan Lukasik, Kayla Korey, and Taryn Lukasik). Mary and John live in Chula Vista, California.
