John L. Korey Profile

John L. Korey was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1944, and grew up in Brooklyn and Garden City, NY.  He received his bachelor's degree in government from Georgetown University in 1966 and his Ph.D. in political science from the University of Florida in 1971.  Except for serving as a visiting professor at Cal State Los Angeles in the mid 1990s, he has taught political science at Cal Poly Pomona since 1971.  He is the author of a textbook on California Government (5th edition, Wadsworth, 2009).  He serves on the Executive Committee of the Cal State University Social Science Research and Instructional Council and from 2000 until 2004 was on the council of the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research.

In 1968 he married the the former Mary Haggerty, who received her bachelor's degree in economics from Trinity College (Washington, DC) in 1967 and her MBA from Cal Poly Pomona in 1982; she is Managing Director of  Investments at the Automobile Club of Southern California.  They have two children, Meghan Lukasik (a clinical psychologist at Rady Childrens' Hospital of San Diego) and David (Director of Finance for Karl Storz Endoscopy of America), and five grandchilden.  They live in Orange, where John is a lector at Holy Family Cathedral Parish (RC). His hobbies include Web design.
