• Open the "states.sav” file.
• Click on “Graphs,” "Legacy Dialogs ," and “Scatter/Dot...”
• Click on "Simple Scatter" and "Define."
• In left window, select “pid” and drag and drop it into the first window on the right (under "Y Axis:").
• In left window, select “ideo” and drag and drop it into the second window on the right (under "X Axis:").
• In left window, select “region” and drag and drop it into the third window on the right (under "Set Markers by:").
• In left window, select “stateabr” and drag and drop it into the last window on the right (under "Label Cases By:").
• Double click on chart to open Chart Editor.
• Click on "Elements" and "Fit Line at Total."
• In Properties window, click on "Close."
• Click on the “Titles" tab; under "Title," type "Figure 3: Party and Ideology in the American States"; under "Footnote" type
