- Open “anes08s.sav” file.
- Click on "Data" and "Weight Cases.."; click on "Weight cases by"; in left window, select "weight" and click on right arrow, and "OK.";
- Click
on “Transform,” “Recode,” and “Into Different Variables….”
- In the
left window, select “income”; click on the right arrow.
- Type “incomcat” under “Name:”; type “Income Category” under
“Label:”; click on “Change.”
- Click
on “Old and “New Values….”
- Under
“Old Value,” select “Range:” and type in “1” and “14”; under “New Value,”
type “1”; click on “Add.”
- Under
“Old Value,” select “Range:” and type in “15” and “18”; under “New Value,”
type “2”; click on “Add.”
- Under
“Old Value,” select “Range:” and type in “19” and “23”; under “New Value,”
type “3”; click on “Add.”
- Under
“Old Value,” select “All other values”; under “New Value,” select “System missing”; click on “Add”; click on “Continue” and “OK.”
- In
“Variable View,” scroll down to the “incomcat”
row; click on the right side on the box in the “Values” column.
- In the
box next to “Value:” type “1”; in the box next to “Value Label:” type
“Low (under $40,000)”; click on “Add”; in the box next to “Value:” type “2”; in the box
next to “Value Label:” type “Middle ($40,000-$74,999)”; click on “Add”; click on “OK”; in the box next to “Value Label:” type
“High ($75,000 an over)”; click on “Add.”
- Click
on “Analyze,” “Descriptive Statistics,” and “Frequencies.”
- In
left window, select “incomcat”; click on right
arrow; click on “OK.”
