• Open “states.sav” file.
• Click on “Graphs,” Legacy Dialogs," and “Pie... .”
• Click on "Summaries for groups of cases" and "Define."
• If necessary to clear dialog box, click on "Reset."
• Click on "% of Cases."
• In left window, select “leg” and click on the second left arrow, under “Define Slices by:”
• Click on the “Title."; under "Title: Line 1," type "Figure 1: Party Control of State Legislatures "; under "Footnote: Line 1" type: "Source: National Conference of State Legislatures, "2012 Live Election Night Coverage of State Legislative Races," http://www.ncsl.org. Accessed November 10, 2012."
• Click on "Continue" and "OK."
• Double click on the chart to open the chart editor.
• Click on "Elements" and "Show Data Labels." Note: this will also open the "Properties" box.
• If you want to convert the chart from color to black and white, click on "Variables" in the "Properties" box; click on "Style: Color," then on "Style: Pattern"; click on "Apply"; click on "Close."
