- Open
“anes08s.sav” file.
- Click
on “Data,” and on “Weight Cases….”
- Select
“Weight cases by”; in the left window, click on “weight”
and click on the right arrow; click on “OK.”
- Click on “Transform,” “Recode,” and “Into Different Variables….”
- In the left window, select “ideology”; click on the right arrow.
- Type “ideologyr"; under “Name:”; type “Recoded: Ideology” under “Label:”; click on “Change.”
- Click on “Old and “New Values….”
- Under “Old Value,” select “Range:” and type in “1” and “3”; under “New Value,” type “1”; click on “Add.”
- Under “Old Value,” select “Value:” and type in “4”; under “New Value,” type “2”; click on “Add.”
- Under “Old Value,” select “Range:” and type in “5” and “7”; under “New Value,” type “3”; click on “Add”; click on “Continue” and “OK.”
- In “Variable View,” scroll down to the “ideology2” row; click on the right side on the box in the “Values” column.
- In the box next to “Value:” type “1”; in the box next to “Value Label:” type “Liberal”; click on “Add”; in the box next to “Value:” type “2”; in the box next to “Value Label:” type “Moderate”; click on "Add"; in the box next to “Value:” type “3”; in the box next to “Value Label:” type “Conservative”; click on "Add"; click on “OK.”
- Click
on “Data,” and on “Select Cases….”
- In the right window, select
“If condition is satisfied"; click on "If."
- Weight cases by”; in the right window, click on “If cweight”
and click on the right arrow; click on “OK.”
- In the right windowm type " (housevote < 5) & (ethnic = 10 | ethnic = 40 | ethnic = 50)"; click on "Continue" and "OK."
- Click
on “Analyze,” “Descriptive Statistics,” and “Crosstabs….”
- In
left window, select “housevote” and click on the
top right arrow next to “Row(s):.”
- In
left window, select “ideologyr” and click on the second right arrow next to
“Column(s):.”
- Click
on “Statistics…”; click on “Cramer’s V”; click on “Continue.”
- Click
on “Cells”; under “Percentages,” select “Column”; click on “Continue” and
“OK.”
