- Open “senate.sav” file.
- Click
on “Transform,” “Recode,” and “Into Different Variables….”
- In the
left window, select “dwnom”; click on the right arrow.
- Type
“dwnomr” under “Name:”; type “Liberalism - conservatism, derived from dwnom” under “Label:”; click on “Change.”
- Click
on “Old and “New Values….”
- Under
“Old Value,” select “Range:"; type in "-1" and "-.2"; under
“New Value,” type “1”; click on “Add.”
- Under
“Old Value,” select “Range:"; type in "-.2" and "1"; under
“New Value,” type “2”; click on “Add.”
- In
“Variable View,” scroll down to the “dwnomr” row; click on the right side
on the box in the “Values” column.
- In the
box next to “Value:” type “1”; in the box next to “Value Label:” type
“Liberal”; click on “Add”; in the box next to “Value:” type “2”; in
the box next to “Value Label:” type “Conservative”; click on “Add”; click
on “OK.”
- Click
on “Analyze,” “Descriptive Statistics,” and “Crosstabs….”
- In
left window, select “dwnomr” and click on the top right arrow next to
“Row(s):.”
- In
left window, select “gender” and click on the second right arrow next to
“Column(s):.”
- Click
on “Statistics…”; click on “Cramer's V ";
click on “Continue.”
- Click
on “Cells”; under “Percentages,” select “Column”; click on “Continue” and
“OK.”
