The Bush Poppy is found in chaparral and is most abundant in the decades following a fire.
Technical description
SHRUB 1-3 m tall. LEAVES lanceolate, 2.5-10 cm long, 0.7-2.5 cm wide, tips pointed, margins with microscopic teeth. FLOWERS: petals 2-3 cm long. FRUITS 5-10 cm long. SEEDS 2-2.5 cm long. Dry slopes and washes, especially in areas of recent burns; < 1800 m. Foothills of the Cascade Range and Sierra Nevada, north and south Coast ranges, Transverse and Peninsular ranges; n Baja California.
