This species, usually called the Island Tree Poppy, is found on Santa Rosa, Santa Cruz, and Santa Catalina Islands off the coast of southern California.
Technical description
TREE or shrub 2-6 m tall. LEAVES elliptic, ovate, or oblong, 3-8 cm long, 1.5-4.5 cm wide, tips rounded, margins entire. FLOWERS: petals 2-3 cm long. FRUITS 7-10 cm long. SEEDS 2.5-3 cm long. Brushy slopes; < 600 m. Channel Islands. Var. rhamnoides (E. Greene) Munz (RARE) with pale green lvs occurs on Santa Catalina I. and was once present on San Clemente I.
