Websites by Subject

The Cal Poly Pomona University Library Websites by Subject project provides links to the "public domain" Internet for subjects that support the University's curriculum.  In addition, the site will link to sites of general interest to academic work.

The purpose is to have the few best sites on each subject page rather than to have all possible sites in a subject.  Websites by Subject sites should be the first place to look, not necessarily the only place.  Sites will be chosen for their authority and because they provide data, either as text or numbers.

The Site will have an editor.  The editor's responsibilities include adding new sites submitted by the bibliographers, advising bibliographers on sites or links, assigning subject headings to pages, linking appropriate subject pages to one another, and maintaining the site's "search engine."  Every page on the site will be included in the search engine.  The editor will also establish and maintain pages for subjects too general for any of the bibliographers.

The University Library's subject bibliographers will select or approve the sites to be included in their subject areas.

Bibliographers' responsibilities also include checking their sites and forwarding new or different sites to add as well as advising the editor on subject headings, indexing terms, and links between similar subject pages.  The bibliographers will check their subject links for accuracy every three months.

Bibliographers may, if they choose, take complete responsibility for building and maintaining some or all of their subject pages.  When they do they will build the pages to confirm with the style of the entire site.

Bibliographers also may build tutorials or special display sites in a different style that can be linked to Internet Reference.

Each subject page will have the name, e-mail address, and phone extension of the bibliographer responsible.
