Getting Stable URLs
WAM authentication This is the tool used for authentication for this library. Look for the elements marked in red below in the URL:
http://0-search.eb.com.opac.library.csupomona.edu/eb/article-9106054

Without these elements, the url will not authenticate for off campus users.
Digital Object Identifier (DOI): (Emerald, Informaworld, Cambridge, Oxford, Sage, ScienceDirect, Springer, Wiley, most Highwire and others) Look around for the DOI (usually on the article launch page or abstract page). Add the data string in red below to the beginning of the DOI for a link that applies WAM authentication before going to the article launch page:

http://0-dx.doi.org.opac.library.csupomona.edu/10.1111/j.1751-0813.2005.tb12721.x

Here is the red part in a more copy friendly string: http://0-dx.doi.org.opac.library.csupomona.edu/

For Non Cal Poly Users:
You can also make a URL that will "resolve" the DOI to an article launch page without WAM authentication:

http://dx.doi.org./10.1111/j.1751-0813.2005.tb12721.x this essentially does the same as pasting the DOI into the DOI resolver: http://dx.doi.org/ You might use this is you were making a web based bibliography for the general public: on some campuses, the link will take the user to the subscribed content.

[ Crossref.org has another DOI resolver http://0-www.crossref.org.opac.library.csupomona.edu/ which seems to apply our authentication to the DOI but does not allways put the stable URL at the top of the browser.]
Artstor have not tried this yet. See http://matcmadison.edu/library/library/artstor.shtm for sample directions
Britannica

Look at the bottom of the page under "To Cite this Page" for the URL
http://0-search.eb.com.opac.library.csupomona.edu/eb/article-9106054

Cambridge Histories Apply WAM authentication to DOI:
http://0-dx.doi.org.opac.library.csupomona.edu/10.1017/CHOL9780521402149
Warning: some volume or chapter level DOIs don't seem to work.  Test carefully.  Take URL from top of browser if DOI does not work.
Some sources of DOIs:
http://0-histories.cambridge.org.opac.library.csupomona.edu/uid=2652/browse?all=1
http://0-histories.cambridge.org.opac.library.csupomona.edu/uid=2652/collection?id=cho_complete
Citation (American institute of Physics, Spin) Click on title from results list to go to an abstract (launch) page.  Look towards the bottom for a "DOI Link" Note that a lot of the full text is seemingly mounted on the AIP server but actually is mounted on another vendors.  example: Passive Control of the Inlet Acoustic Boundary of a Swirled Burner at High Amplitude Combustion Instabilities J. Eng. Gas Turbines Power  -- September 2009 --  Volume 131,  Issue 5, 051502 (7 pages) http://0-dx.doi.org.opac.library.csupomona.edu/10.1115/1.3078206
Ebsco Only useful for when the full text of the article is held on the Ebsco Site.
Look on the abstract page for "Persistent link to this record (Permalink):"
http://0-search.ebscohost.com.opac.library.csupomona.edu/login.aspx?direct=true&db=afh&AN=26275398&site=ehost-live
Factiva

see http://www.bu.edu/library/management/eres/about/factivapersistent.html
This can be adapted to our authentication (see WAM authentication, below):
http://0-global.factiva.com.opac.library.csupomona.edu/en/du/article.asp?NAPC=S&AccessionNo=GMBN000020081128e4bs00107

http://0-global.factiva.com.opac.library.csupomona.edu/en/du/article.asp?NAPC=S&AccessionNo=onli000020011029dqb10006c
Note: as of 2/18/09, none of this worked when tested.

Gale Virtual Reference Library

HTML view: look for a link “Bookmark this document”; PDF view: look for the link “Bookmark” in the upper left corner.
http://0-go.galegroup.com.opac.library.csupomona.edu/ps/i.do?viewtype=&id=GALE|CX3402700183&v=2.1&u=los53368&it=r&p=GVRL&sw=w
This is useful in linking to an individual article in an encyclopedia.

Gale messageWarning: you will often get the message on the right when trying to access a Gale product. Click on the link "Access Gale Virtual Reference Library here" and you then get to a page that allows you to search the entire Gale Virtual Reference Library.  Abandon this and go back to the original link and it should then go to the desired item.  I think this is related to the problem Gale has with cookies. (6/15/09)

Earlier Warning (which does not seem to happen anymore): you often get "proxy error" messages when trying to access Gale. An explanation: "Gale databases require that a cookie be set before full-text access is allowed. The first attempt to retrieve an article will be unsuccessful, but it will set up the cookie. Back up and a second click will succeed." (from http://exlibris.memphis.edu/help/ereadinglists.html)

JSTOR Click on "Item Information" to get Stable URL
http://0-www.jstor.org.opac.library.csupomona.edu/stable/3857692
Lexis Nexis

from:  http://library.lafayette.edu/help/stablelinks:
"Stable URLs per se do not exist for LexisNexis articles, but a search string can be constructed that will do essentially the same thing for most LexisNexis content. To create a URL with a search string for a specific article, use the LexisNexis durable link tool. http://www.amdev.net/lna_article_link.php"

Case Example: 128 S. Ct. 2605
http://www.lexisnexis.com/us/lnacademic/api/version1/sr?shr=t&csi=6496&sr=CITE(128+S.+Ct.+2605)

Authentication applied (not yet tested from off campus)
http://0-www.lexisnexis.com.opac.library.csupomona.edu/us/lnacademic/api/version1/sr?shr=t&csi=6496&sr=CITE(128+S.+Ct.+2605)

Article example
http://www.lexisnexis.com/us/lnacademic/api/version1/sr?shr=t&csi=302437&sr=HLEAD(Programme+aims+to+boost+biodiversity)+AND+DATE+IS+March+14+2008
authentication applied (not yet tested from off campus):
http://0-www.lexisnexis.com.opac.library.csupomona.edu/us/lnacademic/api/version1/sr?shr=t&csi=302437&sr=HLEAD(Programme+aims+to+boost+biodiversity)+AND+DATE+IS+March+14+2008

Library Catalog Look for link: Persistent link to this title above the notes field; look at the resultant page and take the URL from the top of the browser.
Netlibrary So far, have not found a way to link to a specific page or chapter in a Netlibrary Book.
Oxford Encyclopedias Look at the bottom of the article page at "How to Cite this Entry" for a URL
http://0-www.oxford-americanfoodanddrink.com.opac.library.csupomona.edu/entry?entry=t170.e0701
Oxford (Oxford Music, Oxford Art,  which have engulfed Grove Music and Art) Click on the "Cite" button at the top of the article
http://0-www.oxfordmusiconline.com.opac.library.csupomona.edu/subscriber/article/grove/music/01218
http://0-www.oxfordartonline.com.opac.library.csupomona.edu/subscriber/article/grove/art/T003988
Proquest Databases (ABI/Inform, Newspapers, etc.) Once you have an abstract or full text page look towards the bottom for the URL
http://0-proquest.umi.com.opac.library.csupomona.edu/pqdweb?did=60325811&sid=3&Fmt=3&clientId=17860&RQT=309&VName=PQD
Wilson Only useful for when the full text of the article is held on the Wilson site.
Click on the title of a full text article in the results list.  Then look for "Persistent Link:". Clicking on it puts the URL in your windows clipboard.  Paste it into something right away before you loose it.
