Statement of Purpose and Values
 

The Reference, Instruction and Collection Services division of the Cal Poly Pomona University Library directly supports the strategic teaching and learning goals of the University Library, Cal Poly Pomona, and the CSU Chancellor’s Office.  In fulfillment of this purpose we provide the following services:

Reference Service

  • Personal reference assistance at the Reference Desk, via email and the Internet
  • Private consultation by appointment on complex or difficult information problems
  • Product and service development, maintenance, and updating (for example, the Web Sites by Subject and Library Help sites available from the Library Home Page). 

Instruction Services

  • Classroom instruction in library use, information retrieval skills, and    information sources
  • Resource  guides and tutorials  
  • Special purpose classes, workshops and demonstrations, and  web pages

Collection Services

  • Create a current collection of curriculum-related materials through selection of books, databases, and journals in all formats for addition to the collection
  • Ensure that purchase recommendations for the collections reflect a variety of perspectives
  • Special Collections and University Archives
  • Liaison with faculty on collection needs
