  Librarian Retention, Tenure and Promotion (RTP)
The career of a tenure track librarian is governed by a fairly complex review process called RTP. The process is governed by three sets of rules: the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), Campus rules (Appendix 16 of the University Manual) and the Library RTP Criteria and Procedures (the "Document").

The initial review of a candidate's package is performed by the Library (Department) RTP Committee. Committees are elected in the Winter Quarter of each year. A committee member typically serves a 2 year term, which starts in the third week of the Fall quarter.

Post-Promotion Increase
Librarians who have exhausted their SSI (Service Salary Increase) eligibility may be eligible for these raises.  Candidates fill out an application form and the Department RTP Committee makes a recommendation.  Governed by CBA 31.15 and local interpretations (see Faculty Affairs page below). The Librarians may have to elect temporary members to the RTP Committee when a member of the committee is to be evaluated.
Periodic Evaluations
Periodic evaluations of tenured librarians (sometimes called post-tenure reviews) are managed by the Department RTP Committee, but they are not necessarily governed by the same rules as RTP, since no Retention, Tenure or Promotion is involved. The Librarians often have to elect temporary members to the RTP Committee when a member of the committee is to be evaluated.
