Guidelines for Bibliographers

These Guidelines include activities that are generally expected of librarians with collectin management assignments. This is not intended to be an exhaustive list and should not superseed anything in an individual's statement of responsibilities.

  • Be aware of current Collection Management practices and procedures.
     
  • Prepare and monitor budget.
     
  • Distribute allocated funds among the various formats (books, serials, periodicals, electronic resources) and make adjustments as needed.
     
  • Monitor approval plan profile and modify as needed.
     
  • Make use of available data and information sources, e.g., data from YBP and EBSCO, reviews, listservs, library publications, publishers’ nnouncements.
     
  • Respond to faculty and student requests.
     
  • Be aware of changes in colleges, schools, or departments that affect Collection Management, e.g., new majors or programs, change of emphasis, discontinued majors or programs.
     
  • Meet periodically with faculty, e.g., department chair or library liaison.
     
  • Keep faculty informed about the Library, e.g., changes, new services, free trials, acquisitions of interest, cancellations.
     
  • Ensure that publicly available information about subject specific resources is accurate and up-to-date, e.g., database descriptions, information guides, handouts.
     
  • Attend team meetings.
     
  • Participate in team initiatives and projects.
