Korean Government scholarship program called TaLk - Teach and Learn in Korea. The TaLk program offers a wonderful and rewarding opportunity for students to receive Korean Government scholarships, at the same time exploring Korea's rich, vibrant culture and gaining valuable experience teaching English in after-school classes at Korean elementary schools. Participants will receive financial support, including round-trip airfares, a monthly allowance (900,000 won, equivalent to US$700), accommodation, and more. In addition, participates will take classes at an university in the morning, and teach English nine hours a week in the afternoon at a designated elementary school near the university. They will get nine credits for their teaching experience and additional credits for taking courses at the university. The teaching methodology will be presented at the orientation before the students start teaching.

Contract Term for Spring 2010
- The contract terms are for the duration of either 6 months or one year, starting February 2010.
- February 1 , 2010 - July 31, 2010 (six months) - may extend contract
- February 1 , 2010 - January 31, 2011 (one year) - not currently available
- Teaching Hours
- TaLK exchange students will teach 9 hours per week from Monday to Friday (e.g. 3 days a week) and are not required to work on Saturdays, Sundays, or national holidays of the Republic of Korea.
Eligibility
Applicants must fulfill all of the following requirements and adjustment can be possible according to participating universities' criteria.
- Be a citizen of a country where the national language is English (Australia, Canada, New Zealand, U.K., U.S.A., Ireland,
and South Africa).
- Ethnic Koreans with legal residencies in the above countries are eligible also.
- Must be enrolled in undergraduate or graduate courses during the whole contract term
- Must be able to maintain their status as a full-time student in their home universities during the whole contract term (6 months or 1 year).
- Ethnic Koreans with F-4 or F-2 visa are eligible regardless of number of years completed in university.
- An exchange student who is already in Korea is eligible also.
- Be able to attend one of the Korean universities offering the TaLK Exchange Student Program.

- Be mentally and physically capable of performing the specified responsibilities and duties.
- Have the ability and willingness to adapt to Korean life style and culture.
- Be able to communicate in English fluently with clear and distinct pronunciation.
- Meet the criteria of eligibility for D-2 visa set forth by the Korean Immigration Authority.
- F-4 or F-2 visa in case of ethnic Koreans
Preference will be given to the following candidates :
- Have or will have a degree in education, English or subjects related to Korea.
- Have excellent school records including good command of English.
- Have completed primary and secondary education in the countries aforementioned.
How to apply?
Unfortunately, limited scholarships are available and therefore cannot guarantee that all applicants will be accepted to the TaLK program. Please submit documents to the International Center by November 1, 2009 to be considered for the Spring Program.
Instructions for applicants
- Any male with Korean citizenship who has not fulfilled his military duty or received an official waiver must choose the six months
contract term.
- After arriving in Korea, you must undergo a medical check-up at a designated hospital, and if the test results determine
that you have serious disease(s) which are infectious or may keep you from performing your duties (e.g. drug addiction, AIDS),
your scholarship will be cancelled and you must return to your home country at your own expense.
- TaLK scholars are not permitted to have additional employment (including a part-time job) except working as a TaLK scholar.
Please submit the following documents to the International Center:
- A completed Keimyung application and a course enrollment request form
- A completed TaLK Exchange Student Application (including one passport size photo file in .GIF or .JPG format, a personal medical, assessment, and a personal essay)
- A lesson plan
- A sealed transcript
- A recommendation letter
- An original criminal record check (county level)
- A copy of passport photo page
