The University Writing Center is for all Cal Poly Pomona students regardless of program or major. There is no charge. You can come in with any type of writing assignment at any stage of the process. They can help you understand the assignment and plan your paper as well as assisting with research techniques. They can also help you prepare for the Graduation Writing Test (GWT). Call 909-869-5343 for the hours the center (located in Bldg. 15) is open.
All branches of the California State University, including Cal Poly Pomona, have a GWT requirement. The GWT establishes a standard for English writing competency and must be taken before a student may qualify for graduation. Students must earn a score of at least 7. You should start studying for and taking the GWT soon after you arrive at Cal Poly Pomona. It is highly recommended you take the GWT Preparation Program offered by the University Writing Center.
The Learning Resource Center (LRC) is a comprehensive academic support service which assists students in achieving scholastic excellence. Its goals are to help students acquire knowledge by teaching a variety of basic intellectual skills and habits and to aid students in becoming more independent, self-confident and efficient learners. The Career Center assists students in finding part-time, temporary, summer, cooperative education and internship positions. Career counselors are available to help students evaluate and make career decisions, develop realistic plans and identify resources and strategies needed to reach their career goals. You should try to get your Bronco Access Card sometime during the first two weeks of school. This student I.D. Card serves as a piece of identification and may enable you to get student discounts into movies, shows, and other events. To get an I.D. Card, go to Cashiers (Second Floor, CLA Bldg.) and pay $5.00. Take the receipt to the Photo I.D. Office for your photo to be taken. Your card will be ready almost immediately.
Your Bronco Card serves as your Library Card allowing you access to all regular university library materials. There is a 24-hour study lab, a 24-hour computer lab and research assistance in the Library.
