Topics:
Selected topics from Chapters 5-8, 9-12, 13-15, 16-17, 18-20, 21-23 and from
other sources will be discussed during the quarter. The order of coverage will
be decided by the instructor.
Attendance:
Class attendance is mandatory. You are allowed three absences per quarter,
after which your grade will drop 1/3 of a letter grade for each class missed.
Homework:
Homework problems will be assigned for each topic covered. Assignments will be
graded on completeness and effort, however problems similar to the ones given as
homework will appear on the quizzes. Occasionally you may be asked to write a
topic summary – in which case the summary will count towards your homework
grade. You are expected to hand in neat, legible homework. Homework

Quizzes: A
quiz will be given at the end of each topic. The date of the quiz will be
announced in class. The lowest quiz-grade will be dropped. There will be no
make-ups for missed quizzes.
Extra
credit: Occasionally
there will be extra-credit opportunities, such as solving problems on the board,
additional assignments, or papers/presentations. You are encouraged to take
advantage of as many of them as possible.
Exams:
The final will be on Mon, June 9, 1:40-3:40, and it will be semi-cumulative. A
research paper will be part of your final exam. The paper is due at the time of
the in-class exam. There will be no make-up for the final exam.

The final grade will be computed as follows:
Homework 10%
Quizzes
60%
Final Exam 20%+10%
Extra credit up to 10%

A 93-100%, A- 90-92%
