Dr. Shokoufeh Mirzaei

  • Please welcome Dr. Shokoufeh Mirzaei to the IME Department faculty as our newest tenure track faculty member. Assistant Professor Mirzaei recently graduated from Wichita State University with her PhD. in Industrial Engineering.

Cal Poly Pomona WESTEC Team Lance Ideker receives the William B. Johnson Award
  • Manufacturing Engineering Students from the IME Department swept their available events at the WESTEC Manufacturing Challenge in Los Angeles on March 27. Team members are Robby Leuer, Dika Handayani, Lance Ideker, Trevor Law (not pictured), Xavier Lopez, Stephen Casillas, Elias Tahhan, Benjamin Nguyen, Brandin Watson, Diana Seanez, and Donato Corona. Also in the picture on the left are AMS Advisor Dr. Victor Okhuysen. On the right Lance Ideker is shown receiving the William B. Johnson Leadership Award and Scholarship for his great job leading the design effort as well as the student organization, AMS. The AMS team designed and built a 3D printer...an amazing job in a short perior of time. Thanks also to Prof. Dixon Davis for his contributions to the team's effort.

Largest demand is for instructors who can teach 100 and 200 level courses (see catalog descriptions starting on page 274). Applicants must possess at least a masters degree..

Circor Golf Tournament Raises Money for IME Department Scholarships

  • The Circor Aerospace Charity Golf Tournament raised scholarship funds for IME & ME Students at Cal Poly Pomona and tosupport several other charities. The tournament was be held at Vellano Country Club in Chino Hills. MFE Alum and Circor engineer Daniel Granillo coordinated the effort along with students, faculty, and Circor employees. Thank you to everyone involved!

  • Congratulations to Kaveh "Kevin" Shamuilian for finishing third place in the International IIE Paper Competition at the IIE Conference in May 2012!! Cal Poly Pomona IE students have placed in the top three in nine of the last 12 years.
  • Congratulations to Benjamin Tran for First Place in the IIE Regional Student Technical Paper Competition in March 2011 in San Diego.
  • Congratulations to Dr. Kamran Abedini on his on being elected an IIE Fellow. Becoming a fellow is very prestigious accomplishment and huge plus for the College of Engineering

  • Internal IIE Vice President Amanda Smith wins First Place at the International Academic Portion of the Predictive Analytics with Simulation Conference held in Orlando, Florida. The competition was hosted in conjunction with the 2011 ProModel Solution Conference. The other two finalists were teams from Mexico and the United Kingdom.Miss Smith was judged by a panel of industry and academic professionals. Among them was the co-author of the Simulation using ProModel textbook that is used at CPP and creator of the ProModel software, Dr. Charles Harrell (shown in photo). She brought home not only a two-thousand dollar cash award, but 20 temporary full licenses of the ProModel software to be installed on the lab computers in Building 17. Sample of Mandee's simulation

  • IIE Awards - Cal Poly Pomona industrial engineeing students, faculty, and officers at the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) International Conference in May.   • 25th Anniversary of the Challenger Disaster - Students and Faculty from Professor Davis and Dolske's EGR 402 Ethical Considerations class attended a symposium at Chapman University honoring the seven astronauts who lost their lives inthe Challenger Space Shuttle disaster 25 years ago. Also shown in picture is "Whistleblower" Richard C. Cook and Project Engineer Allan McDonald who tried to stop the launch at the Cape. Each have subsequently written books about their experiences.
