Welcome to I&IT Operations

I&IT Operations serves the campus voice and data infrastructure needs. This includes all of the campus' telephones, fax lines, cell phones, voice and data wiring, and the campus information operators.

I&IT Operations provides the following services:

  • Voice Network – Maintenance and upgrades to the campus Private Branch Exchange (PBX) telephone voice switch; daily maintenance and changes to the more than 4,000 telephone lines throughout campus; support of the university's voice mail system; and maintenance of Cal Poly Pomona's call accounting system.
  • Telecommunications Infrastructure – Additions, deletions and changes to the outside and inside network infrastructure (fiber, copper and video cabling) connecting telephones, computers and video in offices, classrooms, laboratories and on-campus residential units.
  • Classroom Technology Maintenance and Support – This group coordinates schedules and monitors technology utilization in classrooms, and performs the necessary upgrades and maintenance to meet academic instruction needs.
  • Computer Labs – Three general access open computing, one staff training and two instructional support lab for use by Cal Poly Pomona student, staff and faculty.

The department staff consists of:

  • Administrator in Charge – Manages the 12-person staff, setting general strategic direction; manages daily tactical issues; manages major projects; provide administrative, business and technical leadership to the staff.
  • Network Analyst for Voice (1) – Implements daily changes in the PBX to accommodate individual additions, deletions or changes to voice lines; manages small data and voice infrastructure projects; provides special services such as the addition of voice greeting "trees" in certain departments and handles major project logistics.
  • Infrastructure Analyst (1) – Coordinates the voice and data infrastructure elements of major capital projects (the addition of new buildings); leads "medium" sized telecommunications infrastructure projects (addition of a laboratory or several classrooms); maintains inter-building, outside plant fiber and copper connectivity.
  • Information Technology Consultant (1) – Provides consulting services and ongoing support for desktop computing, virus protection servers, special configurations for computer training, presentations and technology workshops and schedules resources for academic support.
  • Equipment Systems Specialists (3) – Secures, maintains and upgrades computer presentation equipment in classrooms, labs and conference rooms for academic instruction, seminars, workshops and administrative meetings
  • Instructional Support Technicians (2) – Monitors computer equipment in labs, performs quarterly computer configuration builds, systems resolutions and routine upgrades as needed.
  • Campus Information Operators (2) - Answers university's main switchboard phone calls and direct callers to appropriate personnel.
  • Administrative Assistant/Cell Phone Coordinator  (1) - Assists director and staff with administrative functions and coordinates ordering and bill payment for university purchased cell phones for staff.
