Cal Poly Pomona
Auto-Creation of Winter 2010 Courses in Blackboard 9

All courses scheduled for Winter 2010 Quarter will be automatically created in Blackboard 9 (Bb 9) Pilot environment by November 3rd at 5 p.m. Once this has taken place, you will be able to log into Blackboard 9 Pilot environment from http://blackboard.csupomona.edu and by clicking the “Blackboard 9 Pilot Login” button; and should find your Winter 2010 course(s). Please note that the students won’t be populated until we have performed the Bb Quarterly Maintenance in December. We will keep you updated once we have finalized the schedule for Quarterly Maintenance.

Faculty scheduled to teach in Winter 2010 Quarter will be able to “Export” the course contents from Blackboard 7 (Bb7) to Bb 9 before making the courses “Available” to students.

The steps to export the course content from a Bb 7 course to a Bb 9 course will not automatically export the course files stored in the Content Collection space. If you would like the files in the Content Collection space to be exported to Bb 9, please request us to process it for you. The request form is available at http://www.csupomona.edu/~elearning/form_blackboard-lmsrequest.shtml. Please select “Copy Course” for the Request type and make sure to go through all three steps in filling out the form. Once we have received the request form, we will export the course materials along with the Content Collection files.

Faculty Wishing to Remain on Bb 7 during Winter 2010

Faculty who wish to remain on Bb 7 will need to send in individual requests to bb-mgr@csupomona.edu. When requesting, please provide your Bronco Name, the Winter course name, course section and CRN. The requests must be sent in and received by December 3rd, 2009 so that our staff can manually create your course(s) in Bb 7 before the holiday break. Please note that since this will be manually managed, the turnaround time will be up to 3 business days.

Blackboard 9 Workshop Opportunities and Other Important Information

We also encourage you to take advantage of the many training opportunities eLearning department is offering in the next couple of months. Please refer to the Workshop Calendar and register online today.

Regarding the organization migration from Bb 7 to Bb 9, we will send you an announcement in December. We greatly appreciate your cooperation as we transition to Blackboard 9. Should you have any further question, please do not hesitate to send an email to bb-mgr@csupomona.edu.

Blackboard 9 Upgrade

Blackboard has released Version 9 with many new and improved features.  And Cal Poly Pomona will be upgrading our Blackboard environment to this new version, Bb9, starting in Summer in a limited, pilot test mode.  During the Fall 2009 and Winter 2010 Quarters pilot testing of Blackboard 9 will continue while most of the courses are taught in the current version. If all goes well with the testing, all courses will be migrated to the new version in time for the Spring 2010 Quarter. Please review "What's New in Bb9" for a brief summary of the new features.
