Family
Wife Ellen, is a former elementary school teacher. After raising four children (with me) she worked at the Claremont graduate University for 16 years, serving as Payroll Coordinator during the last decade. She retired from that position in December 1999. Ellen is an avid reader of both fiction and nonfiction and is a marvelous cook of vegetarian cuisine. Recently she became certified as a PACE (People with arthritis CAN exercise) instructor for the Arthritis Foundation. She is popular with her students and a local newspaper ran an article about her creative course, which includes music, videos, and plenty of gently exercise. She has been the love of my life during 45+ years of marriage and 5 years preceding that. I guess that makes both of us at least 50 years old.
Daughter Lisa lives in Boise, Idaho, where she directs an office of Trillium Asset Management, specializing in socially responsible investment. Lisa is a graduate of Cal Poly Pomona and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. She is an accomplished figure skater and keeps in shape by running and/or biking enormous distances regularly. She is now learning to play the banjo. Her wonderful dog Galway thinks he's human and often acts the part.
Daughter Robyn, a graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz, lives in Los Angeles where she is a freelance public relations writer for the film industry. She loves to write and is a published author (Quarterly West, Summer/Fall 1994; Atlantic Monthly, January 2002). She owns a magnificent Caucasian Ovcharka dog, Ilka. Another remarkable dog of hers, Tovarisch, died in 2003. Robyn has become quite expert on this breed.
Twin sons, Jordan and Jeremy are rock and roll musicians in Portland, Oregon (but they also have day jobs!). Jeremy, a graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz, writes the lyrics and Jordan, a graduate of Cal Poly Pomona, writes the music for their vast collection of compositions, which are played by their band, UHF. The band consists of the two Leffs, Jeremy (vocals) and Jordan (guitar and bass) plus Jeff Nelson (guitar and bass) and Matt Johnson (drums). UHF has recorded three CDs, Pieces, Lottery, and If it was easy, all of which are available online at CD Baby and Amazon.com, and snippets of their music can be heard or downloaded free of charge from their website. I think UHF is very talented but, hey, I'm the Daddy of half the band. Listen yourself to see if you agree with me.
In addition to his physics mania, Harvey is an avid drum enthusiast and tries to play a bit nearly everyday (click here).
