In response to the State of California's budget shortfall and steep cuts to the California State University (CSU) budget, the CSU has asked all of its 47,000 employees (except public safety personnel) to furlough as a way to protect the maximum number of jobs while generating essential salary savings.
Currently, furloughs are scheduled for employees in the following employee groups or collective bargaining units:
The State Employees Trades Council (SETC--Unit 6) Board has opted for layoffs instead of furloughs.
As information becomes available regarding implementation of furloughs for Cal Poly Pomona employees, it will be posted here.
*Health Center workers in Management Personnel Plan (MPP), Unit 1 (UAPD), and CSUEU (Units 2, 5, 7 & 9) positions are exempt from furlough effective November 5, 2009 (Note: Cal Poly Pomona's Student Health Center will be open on Friday, November 20, 2009). The exemption only applies to employees working in Student Health Services and the exemption will no longer apply if an employee is subsequently reassigned or appointed to another department and/or classification that is subject to the furlough pay and time reduction program.

Furlough Information by Collective Bargaining Unit or Employee Group
The Cal Poly Pomona Office of Public Affairs has developed communications (signage for office closures, Email Signature Addition, Out of Office Email Alert, and Voicemail Message wording) to help the campus community consistently express furlough information. ![]()
In order for employees to have a consistent amount of pay each month, each employee's pay reduction necessitated by furloughs will be spread evenly over the remaining months of this fiscal year (August 2009 through June 2010) that the employee is in pay status. Since the reduction is to account for a total of 24 days of furlough, the pay reduction is equal to 10.07%.
To use the paycheck calculator, input your information so that the calculator matches the net pay on your most recent paycheck stub. Then input a gross pay that is 10.07% less, so the calculator will yield your new estimated net pay with the furlough adjustment.
