Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What kind of changes can I make during Health Open Enrollment?
During Open Enrollment, you can:

  • Change your medical and/or dental plan
  • Enroll in a medical and/or dental plan, if you are eligible and did not enroll during your initial 60-day enrollment period
  • Drop your existing medical and/or dental coverage and enroll in the CSU's FlexCash Program (must have other non-CSU coverage)
  • Cancel your enrollment in the CSU's FlexCash Program and enroll in medical/dental coverage
  • Add new dependents to your medical, dental, and/or vision coverage
  • Delete dependents from your medical, dental, and/or vision coverage
  • Establish a Health Care Reimbursement Account (HCRA) for 2010
  • Establish a Dependent Care Reimbursement Account (DCRA) for 2010

When is Open Enrollment?
The next Open Enrollment period will be September 14 through October 9, 2009.

When will my open enrollment changes take effect?
Changes made during Open Enrollment will take effect January 1, 2010.

What if I'm not currently enrolled in a medical or dental plan?
If you're eligible but did not enroll in a medical or dental plan during the first 60 calendar days of your appointment date, you can enroll during the Open Enrollment period. Your coverage will become effective the following January 1.

Am I eligible to enroll in health benefits?
Eligibility is based upon the length and timebase of your appointment. For details, visit the Benefits Eligibility page on our website or contact us extension 3734 or 3735 if you have questions about your eligibility.

What if my eligible family members are not currently enrolled?
You may enroll eligible family members to your medical, dental, and/or vision plan during the Open Enrollment period. The number of dependents that you add does not change the premium amount once you have added two or more dependents.

I want to enroll in an HMO plan. Do I select a primary care physician (PCP) or medical group?
When you enroll in or change health plans to an HMO, you may have to select a new primary care provider (PCP) or medical group. Each family member may choose a different PCP. Each health plan's provider directory lists available PCPs and their specialties. Make sure the PCP you want to use will take you as a patient before selecting your health plan. Indicate your PCP selection on your Open Enrollment Worksheet. If you do not select a PCP, the health plan will assign a PCP to you and each family member. PPO health plans do not require the selection of a PCP.
