Dr. Hackett is a veterinarian and a professor in
the Department of Animal & Veterinary Sciences. After two
years in private practice in rural areas of Minnesota and Wisconsin,
Dr. Hackett joined the Animal Science department teaching faculty
in 1980. Always maintaining some clinical assignment, especially
in reproduction with the KAHC, Dr. Hackett has also held various
administrative roles, including a stint as Director of Equine
Research (1986-94) & as coordinator of the AVMA accredited
Animal Health Sciences option (Veterinary Technology) since1995.
Veterinary Parasitology, Animal Issues in Science
and Society, Veterinary Technology, Student Advising for Careers
in Animal Health, Curriculum Development in Veterinary Technology,
Improving Teaching and Learning.
Dr. Hackett's research has focused on veterinary
parasitology with interests in the interaction between parasitism
and animal nutrition. Recent efforts have looked at the application
of alternative therapies in veterinary medicine. Extremely active
organized veterinary medicine, Dr. Hackett is always quite interested
in animal hygiene, food safety, and public health.
Student inductee into Gamma Sigma Delta, St. Paul
Chapter (1972), Pomona chapter awards for Extension Activities(1986),
Research(1987), & Administration(1993). Member of Cal Poly,
Pomona IACUC 1982- 90, Chair IACUC 1982 - 87. Commendations for
service as a SCVMA Trustee(1989 & 1994). president of the
1100 member SCVMA 1994, member of the CVMA Board of Governors
1997 - present.
