Commencement Speaker
John E. Trei, Associate Dean of the College of Agriculture is
retiring this year having served 28 years at Cal Poly Pomona.
Dr. Trei has been the Chief Operations Officer for the college
for the past 8 years. He is a professor in the Department of Animal
and Veterinary Sciences having served as Associate Professor,
Unit Manager, Professor and Department Chair during his tenure.
His teaching and research specialty is animal nutrition with an
emphasis on ruminant nutrition.
Dr. Trei has authored or coauthored
over 40 scientific publications and has served as major professor
to over 20 graduate students. He is a member of numerous professional
organizations including the American Society of Animal Science,
American Registry of Professional Animal Scientist and past President
of CA/NV Chapter, past Chairman of the California Animal Nutrition
Council and a member of the Council for Agricultural Science and
Technology. He is also former president of the Cal Poly Pomona
Chapter of Sigma X (natural research society), Gamma Sigma Delta
(natural agriculture honorary), and Kiwanis Club of Pomona.
Prior to joining Cal Poly Pomona, Dr.
Trei was employed by Smith Kline and Frank Laboratories in Philadelphia,
PA. During his 8 years with the Research and Development Division,
Smith Kline Animal Health Products, he was appointed as senior
scientist, project leader, and assistant manager of field development.
He has been issued a number of patents and has received numerous
professional awards and recognitions.
Dr. Trei received his B.S. degree in
Animal Science from the University of Illinois and his M.S. and
Ph.D. in Agricultural Biochemistry and Nutrition from the University
of Arizona.
John has been married to his wife,
Elaine, for 36 years and they have two married daughters living
in the San Diego area. They also have six grandchildren.
John and Elaine will be retiring to
the San Diego area.
General Information
Caps & Gowns
Caps and gowns will be available for purchase beginning April
16 at the Bronco Bookstore. The cost for the cap and gown will
be $31.00-$35.00.
Honor Cords
Gold honor cords will be available from the Registrar's Office
in the CLA Bldg. (98). Green honor cords (for Gamma Sigma Delta)
will be available in the Dean's Office (Building 2, Room 216)
for pick up beginning Monday, June 3.
Parking
Parking for graduates and guests will be in Lot J. If you have
a special parking need, please contact the Dean's Office. There
will be special parking for the handicapped. If you need a map
of the campus to send to your invited guests, they are available
in the Dean's Office.
Seating
There will be no reserved seating; ample seating will be available.
There will be a designated area for handicapped seating.
Reception
For graduates, family and friends, there will be a reception immediately
following the ceremony in front of Building 8. Take this opportunity
to be congratulated by your professors and introduce your families.
