Biography: Before coming to Cal Poly Pomona, Nancy worked
in the food industry for almost 10 years. While attending Chapman
University to obtain her B.S. degree in Food Science and Nutrition,
she began working at Seven Up/RC Cola Bottling Company as a Lab
Technician in Quality Assurance. After graduation from Chapman,
Nancy was hired on full-time at Seven-Up, and specialized in the
hot-fill products line, monitoring the quality issues for pasteurized
tea and juice products, such as Lipton Tea and Snapple Juice Drinks.
She also worked closely with the FDA, monitoring the acidified
beverages.
After approximately
6 years at Seven Up, Nancy went to Miller Brewing Company and
worked as a Chemist and a Microbiologist for Quality Services.
She monitored the quality of the beer through all its stages of
production by chemical, microbiological, and sensory testing.
Nancy later specialized in the training of new Chemists and Microbiologists,
compiling a training guide and monitoring their progress.
Now at Cal
Poly Pomona, Nancy is the Instructional Support Technician, managing
the laboratories of the Human Nutrition and Food Science department.
She assists the instructors with laboratory classes by purchasing
supplies, maintaining equipment, promoting safety, and assisting
students.
