Dr. Cogger is a Professor in Animal and Veterinary
Sciences at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. After
receiving his Ph.D. at Michigan State University, he trained as
a postdoctoral fellow in Avian Endocrinology at the University
of Minnesota under Dr. William H. Burke from 1974-76. Since that
time he has been on the faculty at California State Polytechnic
University, Pomona where he has taught a variety of courses in
poultry science, physiology, data management and analysis and
computer applications. Recently, his research interests have changed
from poultry physiology to equine physiology and locomotion which
he pursues with Drs. Wickler and Hoyt in the Equine Research Center.
Poultry science: avian physiology, avian healthcare
management, general poultry husbandry and management.
Physiology: general, fluid balance, endocrinology.
Data management and analysis: statistics (general, exploratory
data analysis and inferential statistics), database and spreadsheet
use, graphical display of quantitative information, scientific
data presentation.
Computer application to problem solving in animal science.
Dr. Cogger's current research interests are primarily
in the area of equine physiology as it pertains to high altitude,
fluid balance, exercise and locomotion. His additional expertise
in research design, data management and analysis and computer
programming (LabVIEW®) make him an integral part of the research
team at the Equine Research Center.
