Biography:

Dr. Nenita B. Cabacungan is a professor in the Foods, Nutrition and Consumer Sciences department at California State University, Pomona. After receiving her BS degree, she worked for several years as a high school teacher and a college instructor in Central Luzon State University, Philippines. She also worked as a Research Assistant at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and Colorado State University where she received her Ms and PhD degrees, respectively. Following graduation, she accepted a teaching job at California State University, Pomona, where she has continuously worked since then.

Introduction to Food Science; Experimental Food Science; Basic Nutrition; Contemporary Nutrition; Nutrition, Science and Health; Nutrition in the Life cycle; Advanced Nutrition, Nutrition and Hormones; Recent Advances in Nutrient Metabolism, Carbohydrates; Investigative Process in Foods and Nutrition; Seminar in Foods and Nutrition; Food and Culture

Research Areas/Expertise:

Dr. Cabacungan's research work and experiences include - dietary lipids and coronary artery ultrastructure, dietary intake studies of human subjects, protein requirements of prepubertal females, hydroxyproline excretion and nutritional status, alcohol and niacin excretion, nutrition balance studies, use of radioactive tracers in enzyme determination. She has also guided and directed numerous and varied student researches from nutrition education , weight loss, changes in body composition to product development. She has also done product testing for the California Egg Council, Sunkist, Variety Meats, Hunt Wesson and Harvest 2000 Inc.

Professional Activity:

Honorary member of Phi Upsilon Omicron; member Gamma Sigma Delta and a long time member of the Institute of Food Technology. She is a Certified Nutrition Specialist.
