Civic Engagement

Civic Engagement (CE) is the Kellogg Honors College’s (KHC) name for community service. CE is an opportunity to build relationships with fellow KHC students while gaining exposure to issues concerning the community. CE events are scheduled by the KHC, so students do not need to find community service projects on their own. Events are listed online where students can sign-up to attend. A credit system is used rather than counting individual community service hours. Students are required to complete the equivalent of 15 hours of CE every year. The benefits of Civic Engagement include:

  • Developing awareness of issues concerning the community
  • Building relationships with other KHC students
  • Applying classroom knowledge to real world situations
  • Greater involvement with a club or organization (on and off campus)
  • Developing insights for scholarship and graduate school applications
