Capstone Project
What is the Capstone Project?Princeton University defines a capstone as "a final touch; a crowning achievement; a culmination." The capstone is an independent project conducted under the supervision of a faculty member (faculty mentor). It is a culminating experience in a student's major or a related field of interest. The project should display knowledge, scholarship and creativity. Completing the capstone and presenting it at Convocation (held every 3rd or 4th Friday in May) is a requirement to graduate from the KHC. Formally, a student finds a mentor, signs up for a 400 level course in the related major during the academic year previous to graduation or Fall/Winter quarter of the graduating year. The Capstone course cannot be taken the same Spring quarter of a student's graduation year.
Capstone Contract FormThe Capstone contract is the official form used to propose a potential Capstone research project. The completed form is due by the end of the 8th week of the quarter prior to enrolling in the Capstone course. Since the form needs you to address specific questions pertaining to the project, the mentor's signature agreeing to the proposal, a couple of other signatures AND approval by the Honors College, starting early in the quarter is always advisable. Convocation 2013 InformationThe 2013 KHC Convocation will be held on Friday, May 24 from 4:00 - 6:00PM at the Ursa Major suite in the Bronco Student Center at Cal Poly Pomona. A capstone project poster session will be held from 4:00 - 5:00PM, followed by a recognition ceremony from 5:00 - 6:00PM. This event is free and open to the public. Capstone project posters are due May 6 (8:00AM) and abstracts are due May 1 (8:00AM).
