Biography:

Dr. Caldwell-Freeman is Professor and Dietetic Internship Director in the Human Nutrition and Food Science Department at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.  She has been a Registered Dietitian since 1970 and has been on faculty at Cal Poly Pomona since 1973.

While at Cal Poly Pomona, Dr. Caldwell-Freeman was instrumental in the establishment of the Dietetic Internship offered through the Department.  With a current enrollment of 14-15 interns, the program works with more than 35 facilities to provide outstanding training to future dietitians.  The current pass rate of 96% speaks to the success of this program.  Graduates typically find jobs in clinical dietetics, renal dietetics, Public Health and WIC programs, school foodservice, and sales.  Many pursue graduate degrees and have been promoted in the workforce.

Dr. Caldwell-Freeman has been actively involved with the California Dietetic Association (CDA) and the American Dietetic Association (ADA), serving in a number of appointed and elected positions since 1970.  Some of the CDA positions include District President (San Gabriel Valley District), Delegate to ADA, Vice-President, Education Council and Professional Mentoring Districts Coordinator.  She has served ADA as Chair of the ADA Bylaws Committee,and Chair of the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education.  She is currently a Site Visitor/Program Reviewer for the Commission.

Dr. Caldwell-Freeman has served as President of the California Dietetic Association Foundation for 2006-2007, after terms of Director, Grants and Scholarships, Secretary/Treasurer and President-Elect.  She is serving as CDA President-Elect beginning June 2007, to be followed as with a year as CDA President.

Dr. Caldwell-Freeman has been involved as Lead Discipline Faculty, Food Science and Nutrition for the Intersegmental Major Preparation Articulated Curricululm Project for Intersegmental Committee of Academic Senates (ICAS) representing the faculty of the University of California, California State University, and California Community Colleges. She is currently Lead Reviewer for the Nutriton component of the Lower-Divsion Transfer Pattern Project of the Califonia State Univrsity.

In recognition for her contributions to the Profession, in April, 2007, Dr. Caldwell-Freeman received the Dolorus Nyhus award, the highest award that CDA uses to recognize one of its members.
