Business Owners Toolkit. Riverwood, IL: CCH, Inc.  Features advice from the SOHO Guidebook, as well as a collection of business forms and selected current news of interest to small business owners. They also have a fee based premium service that allows you to search proprietary databases.

Business Advisor. New York: Deloitte & Touche, LLP.  A resource for small business owners from the Big 6 accounting firm. Much of the information is from their publications. Covers topics such as: writing a business plan, buying a business, expanding globally, financing business growth, selling the business, taxation in North America, home offices, and franchising.

Business Week Enterprise. New York: Business Week.  Features news, article archives and resources for finance, technology, market research, staff and benefits, travel, and more. Some features are unique to Business Week, with others the partner with other information providers such as the Business Owners Toolkit, DRI/McGraw Hill, and Standard & Poor.

Entre World. Kansas City, MO: Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation Center For Entrepreneurial Leadership Inc.  This Web site gives advice on starting and running your business; includes service directories and useful links for small businesses.

EntrepreNet. Pittsburgh. The Enterprise Corporation of Pittsburgh.  The site features information and links for entrepreneurs and small business owners. EntrepreNet provides extensive connections to other Internet sites of interest to entrepreneurs and maintains an extensive on-line reference library containing information on a variety of topics such as financing, marketing, selling, etc. Articles from The Enterprise Journal: News for Entrepreneurs are also available. The Enterprise Corporation is a private, non-profit corporation affiliated with Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh.

Entrepreneur.Com  The Web site contains more than 30,000 pages of small-business content with 33 industry experts who will answer user questions and conduct hosted chats on a wide variety of topics. The site also includes 11 databases to help users to locate anything from banks to business opportunities, and services such as a barter network, business financing, lawyers, personnel and Web developers.

FinanceHub  Finance Hub offers many options for seekers of venture capital and investors. Includes information on venture capital companies, law advice, banking information, and articles on how to obtain venture capital. Entrepreneurs can list their companies for free in the Finance Hub database.

The Foundation for Enterprise Development  The Foundation for Enterprise Development is a non-profit organization that provides equity compensation and employee ownership strategies to thousands of entrepreneurs and key executives worldwide. The site has an array of useful links and tools of interest to anyone interested in starting their own business.

Garage.com  Provides assistance and advice to entrepreneurs to help them obtain seed level financing. Identifies and pre-screens high-quality investment opportunities matched to investor’s identified interests. 

MIT Entreprise Forum  Over the past twenty years, the MIT Entreprise Forum of Cambridge has assisted approximately 1,000 companies in a variety of ways — helping them to make their business plans more attractive to financial resources, build management teams, focus on specific markets, develop strategic alliances, and providing education programs.

Moneytree. PricewaterhouseCoopers  The PricewaterhouseCoopers Money Tree Survey is a quarterly study of equity investments made by the venture capital community in private companies in the United States. Small Business Development Centers  Gain access to more than 1,000 Small Business Development Centers across the country. SBDCs provide nationwide educational assistance to small and medium businesses and their management.

Businessplans.org  This site is the direct competitor of Paloalto.  Business Resource Software's Center for Business Planning includes a collection of resources for planning your business, documenting your plan and evaluating your strategy.   Links to hundreds of sites offering research materials for every possible line of business.   A library of business plans includes entries in the Moot Corp® Competition at the University of Texas. Small Business Administration and Other Federal Government Resources

SBA US Business Advisor   STARTING POINT  The US Business Advisor created by the SBA is ultimate portal to all SBA and federal government resources for small and medium size enterprises.  Essentially a more user friendly, better organized and attractive search system than the older SBA websites.  One stop access to federal government information services and transactions.  Contents also include downloadable tools and materials offered by the SBA.  Menu categories include: Business Development, Financial Assistance, Taxes, Laws and Regulations, International Trade, Workplace Issues, Buying and Selling, Agencies and Gateways, E-Services, Info Desk, How do I?, plus search engine by key word. 

SBA Online  The BIG ONE, the original SBA website index to all SBA resources available on the Internet.  From SBA loan guarantee programs, to shareware, planning and financial business tools, even downloadable SBA reports and documents, it's all here.  Some find the Expanded Site Map  easier to use in finding specific items on the vast website.

SBA Small Business Development Centers  provide technical and business assistance to local small businesses at a nominal fee or free of charge.  Each region and many times each large city has a local SBDC office which can be visited for valuable advice and instruction materials on starting and operating a small business.  Local Addresses of SBDCs by State  will assist you in finding your closest SBDC office.   SBDCs on the Internet  provides direct links to all SBDCs with a web presence. 

Service Corps of Retired Executives - SCORE  With more than 11,000 volunteer business counselors, SCORE provides free small business mentoring and advice on the full range of business topics.  SCORE’s free, online business counseling from business management experts can help you start off on the right track or solve a business question regarding expanding or selling your business. 

SBA Office of Advocacy - Research and Statistics provides most government documents and research and census reports prepared for the US government on small business.  This is an exceptional resource for researchers. Also, the SBA Office of Advocacy State Small Business Profiles are also available in pdf downloadable format.

US Census Bureau State and County Profiles   US Census Bureau California Profiles.  A very important source for those doing research on county statistics, numbers of businesses, demographics, etc.

Online Women's Business Center Leave it to women to create the very best. Federal Consumer Information Center, Pueblo Colorado - Small Business  Excellent list of downloadable small business pamphlets free or minimal fee.

SBA Online Government Contracting General Information And Publications  Small Business Administration page which provides somewhat informational, if a bit old documents and instructions on procurement and government contracts.

SBA PRO-Net Pro-Net is an electronic gateway of procurement information -- for and about small businesses. It is a search engine for contracting officers, a marketing tool for small firms and a "link" to procurement opportunities and important information. It is designed to be a "virtual" one-stop-procurement-shop. 

US Department of Commerce - Minority Business Development Agency   The Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) is part of the U.S. Department of Commerce, specifically created to encourage the creation, growth and expansion of minority-owned businesses in the United States. The resources provided on this web site are a FREE service and include the following: list business, register opportunities, links to MBDA Centers, on-line resources and events.

California Department of General Services  The Office of Small Business Certification and Resources provides stimulus and business information services to further state contracting participation. The OSBCR's primary responsibility is communication and access to state contracting information.

The articles, however are abstracts, not full text, but the database is exhaustive in entrepreneurship.

Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership  One of the three primary foundations focusing on entrepreneurship programs, education and resources.  This page introduces the foundation, its interest areas, youth development and grant writing.  A must for organizations related to entrepreneurship seeking grant funds and need guidance in proposal writing.

MIT Cal Tech Enterprise Forum  The nationally famous MIT Enterprise Forums have been brought to California by Cal Tech in Pasadena.  Perhaps the top forum of this type in California, and one of the best in the US.  If you have a technical product and would like to hear some of the most promising start up ventures present their business plans to a panel of venture capitalists, bankers, attorneys, then these monthly meetings are a must for you.  Dinner is served providing enormous opportunities for making investor and other professional contacts.  Many of the forums provide in depth look at major trends and changes in the "high tech" venturing process.

University of Pittsburgh Center for Research on Contracts and the Structure of Industry  The CRSE Contracts Library is one of the very best sources of small business contracts and forms. To use the library, a visitor must register but it is free and worthwhile.

Los Angeles Venture Association  The Los Angeles Venture Association (LAVA) is a not-for-profit informal monthly forum that brings together venture capital investors and other money providers, entrepreneurs, business executives, academicians, management candidates for new ventures, and providers of professional services needed by new ventures.  In short, LAVA has been designed as a networking vehicle for its members to share and exchange information about each others' interests and needs. Monthly breakfast meetings are held the second Tuesday of every month with registration beginning at 7:00 A.M. and the program convening promptly at 7:30 A.M. Quarterly evening meetings have been scheduled, as well.

Orange Coast Venture Group  The Orange Coast Venture Group is a non-profit organization formed in 1985 to bring together people who are interested in new enterprise and the process of creating it. The group is comprised of professionals involved in the entrepreneurial process - people with bright ideas and the practical skills required to implement those ideas.

Angelstreet Com   is an on-line investment bank that serves Angel investors and high growth companies. Their goal is to create an organized private capital marketplace where accredited investors have access to screened, high growth companies in need of capital.

Capital Connection  "The Entrepreneur's Website for Financing Resources"  Capital Connection lists finance websites, services and consultants and provides a description, including how the service works and how much it costs, and who pays for it. Site also has a lot of information on venture funds, angel networks and other non-traditional funding sources. Also some Business Planning software and assistance offered. They claim they do not recommend, promote, or endorse any of the services.

Commercial Finance Online  This website allows you to search through a large database for financing sources likely to have an interest in your business and its capital needs.

The Elevator  Tries to pair up high-tech entrepreneurs with financing from notes investors, venture capitalists and corporations, and targets more than just high-tech startups and seed money. Make a 150 word pitch, then wait 24 hours to hear if someone wants to see a more complete business plan.

Emerging Technologies Institute   Emerging Technologies Institute (Sacramento, CA), offers assistance in acquiring funding to start-up high tech companies in the biotechnology, agricultural, manufacturing and information technologies industries.

Zanax IPO Net  Initial Public Offerings ( IPOs ) have received a lot of attention recently as certain securities have made several young entrepreneurs instantaires. This site is for investors with at least $10,000 in liquid capital and a net worth in excess of $100,000. IPOnet is the only internet site cleared by the United States Securities & Exchange Commission to "sell" new Public, and Private securities online.

Magnet  A non-profit site for entrepreneurs, non-profits and small businesses looking for funding to network with venture capitalists, foundations and business grant sources and investors.

It is published by the Tech Coast Venture Network, to be revised in early 2000.

United States Patent and Trademark Office  The official site for filing patents and trademarks online, as well as taking advantage of exhaustive information resources, similar to above.

American Bar Association Science and Technology Law - Electric Commerce Division  The Electronic Commerce Division of the ABA's Section of Science and Technology Law has been a significant focus of electronic commerce law initiatives since the Division's formation in 1992. Through its four committees, the Electronic Commerce Division has devoted extensive resources to addressing developing issues of electronic commerce.

Lectric Law Library Forms  The 'Lectric Law Library's' more than 4500 files include the net's largest law dictionary and collections of legal forms, software, humor, study guides and lots more --all available at no cost.
