Center for Research in Electronic Commerce

 

Maintained by the University of Texas at Austin, the Center for Research in Electronic Commerce offers an interesting glimpse of researchers' efforts to make sense of the new realities of e-business. You can explore a number of publications about e-business, including reports and working papers on topics such as digital market structure, network pricing, and financial markets and trading mechanisms. In spite of some daunting titles, such as "Distributed Decision-Support Systems for Real-Time Supply-Chain Management Using Agent Technologies," many of these reports are written in a fairly accessible manner. The site also offers a number of links and e-business resources, including the Electronic Commerce FAQ, an extensive, well-done overview covering everything from basic definitions to security, marketing and intermediation.

 

Electronic Markets

 

The Electronic Markets site provides content from the Electronic Markets quarterly print journal, which is edited by the Institute for Media and Communications Management at Switzerland's University of St. Gallen. The journal has a definite academic flavor, with contributions from researchers and practitioners from around the world. Most links lead to abstracts; you can download complete articles in Adobe Acrobat format. An archive houses several years of back issues, which you can search by issue, title, author or topics ranging from "Basics and Definitions" to "Economic Theories" to "Web Assessment." Univ Cal Berkeley Library Guides  - Invisible Web  Database content rarely found in search engines. The "visible web" is what you get from general web search engines (like Google, FastSearch, AltaVista, NorthernLight, and Infoseek). The "INvisible web" is what's you can get by searching in any of thousands of specialized searchable databases. Commerce.Net is an industry association for Internet Commerce launched in April 1994. Today membership has grown to over 600 companies and organizations worldwide, including banks, telecommunications companies, VANs, ISPs, online services, software and services companies, as well as major end-users. The web site includes information on e-commerce resources, membership services, pilot projects the association has undertaken, an online research center that includes statistical and demographic information, and a calendar of events.

CVOC Best Practices Tutorial  The Best Practices website is designed to provide broad, base-level coverage of best practices. The section begins by defining the term best practice. The discussion differentiates between best practices and benchmarking. The composition of a best practice, best practice enablers, as well as the benefits of implementation are included.

US Business Advisor, Small Business Administration  E-Services: tools, templates, readings, articles, tutorials sponsored by US Small Business Administration.  The U.S. Business Advisor – a one-stop electronic link to all the information and services government provides for the business community. The U.S. Business Advisor was created by the Small Business Administration (SBA), the National Partnership for Reinventing Government (NPR), and the U.S. Business Advisor interagency task force.

United States Government Electronic Commerce Policy  This site from the Secretariat of the U.S. Department of Commerce includes up-to-the minute news stories, government documents on electronic commerce policy, links to related sites, both governmental and international, examples of e-commerce, as well as U.S. joint statements on electronic commerce made with other nations. Advisory Commission on Electronic Commerce  Congress created the Advisory Commission on Electronic Commerce with the task of producing recommendations on electronic commerce and tax policy. The site includes the commission's report to Congress, FAQ's, a library, and links to other sites. The site will remain available until June 1, 2001.

Federal Electronic Commerce Program Office  Numerous links to electronic commerce topics and other federal EC sites. A search engine, library of current and historical EC documents, and a FAQ are also available.
