About This Project

Alamitos Hall Building 22. is a student residential building erected in 1961 on a total SF area of 37,426 SF. The building is located at University Dr. and is widely identified by its red brick exterior facade. The scope of work of this project includes a full ADA renovation of all 8 restrooms and shower rooms on approximately 2,700 square feet. It includes installing completely new electrical, mechanical, plumbing and fire safety systems. Environmental abatement work will also be carried out at these facilities.

This $1.70 million project will provide fresh ventilation and A/C systems in restrooms, as well as the complete finishing systems, including ceramic tiles and waterproof ceiling tiles. The project will be implemented beginning June 14th during the Summer Quarter vacation period. Project will be completed by September 10th 2010.

In addition, the ground floor will require additional work to remove access barriers, provide access signage, and provide fully accessible restrooms for dormitories tenants.

Project Funding

  • Funding for this project is from University Housing a Department of Student Affairs Division utilizing existing reserve funds.

Progress of Major Construction Activities

  • A topographic plan has been developed in order to facilitate design of new DSA parking spots at the building and a required path of travel from University Drive.
  • Project Architect has delivered the 95% construction documents.
  • Construction documents has been sent to PC Associates for Code review and accessibility review.
  • Air balance report has been prepared for the existing conditions.

Key/Critical Issues Currently Pending

  • Identify and circumvent high voltage conduits at north parking lot.
  • Receive and complete back check code review.
  • Submit drawings to regulatory agencies including DSA and Fire Marshal.
  • Advertise Bid by February 2010 and coordinate process with the Procurement Office.
