About This Project

The WK Kellogg Arabian Horse Library special collection, which is currently partially housed in the Kellogg Stables building, will now be located in the University Library first floor room 1832.  The entry to the 5,200 GSF space will be located at the main entry lobby of the University Library, adjacent to Starbucks. The entry has been designed to identify this special Library space and provide patrons the opportunity to view the historical artifacts. The collection includes numerous archival materials which requires special lighting (UV protection) and mechanical system (s) to control humidity and temperature, these program elements have been addressed in the design and construction of the new space.

Project Funding

  • By donations from the Kellogg Foundation.

Progress of Major Construction Activities

  • The Notice to Proceed was issued April 25, 2011 and the contractor has began mobilizing.
  • Pre-construction kick off meeting occurred April 26, 2011.
  • Wall layouts are scheduled to occur the first week of May.
  • Kick off Commissioning meeting has been scheduled for May 3, 2011.

Key/Critical Issues Currently Pending

  • Submission and approvals of deferred approvals, fire alarm and fire sprinklers.
  • Submission and approvals of HVAC equipment.

Upcoming Utility or Other Interruptions

  • During construction the lobby door to Starbucks will be closed during specific time frames.
