engineering lab exterior

Phase 2 of the library project will complete the renovation of floors 2-6, 185,855 gsf. All remaining life/safety deficiencies such as required seismic upgrades; pre-cast panel removal, fire sprinkler system; fire alarm system and hazardous material removal shall be completed on floors 2-6 during this phase of the project. The fire protection system for floors 2-6, which was deferred until this phase, will be completed; it will be a combination wet standpipe and fire sprinkler system. The new system will be tied into the Phase 1 system to work as one integrated fire protection system. The mechanical system has out surpassed it life cycle and requires replacement during Phase 2. On floors 2-6 the existing air handling unites, ductwork, air distribution, piping, controls and all related appurtenances shall be demolished and replaced with new VAV air handling systems. The electrical system on floors 2-6 including switchgear and lighting has out surpassed its life cycle; is inefficient and will be replaced during Phase 2. The security system will be completed in Phase 2 by installing cameras and card readers at key locations within the existing building such as the main elevators and group study rooms. The library will remain open during construction of Phase 2 and therefore the project will be done in a sequential fashion to minimize library operation disruptions.
