The vision for the Campus Master Plan is to enhance the academic community by supporting the University's mission. The Campus Master Plan provides a physical framework "to advance learning and knowledge by linking theory and practice in all disciplines, and to prepare students for lifelong learning, leadership and careers in a changing multicultural world."

The Campus Master Plan implements the University's strategic plan, Cal Poly Pomona, Strategic Planning Guidelines, Toward the 21st Century , and is the basis for the plan's vision.

Key principles of the Campus Master Plan are:

• Integrated Land Use Enhancing an Academic Community
• College Neighborhoods as an Organizing Element
• A Concentrated, Pedestrian Campus Surrounded by Large Open Spaces
• A Pedestrian Campus in a Commuter Environment
