What is HYDROPONICS?
Hydroponics is a method of growing plants in a soil free system. Nutrient rich water controlled by the grower continuously runs through the system along the roots allowing the plant to thrive.
What are the benefits?
-
The nutrient-rich water disseminated to the plants allows for a better product and controlled taste.
-
Hydroponic plants sold in the Farm Store are living because their roots are still intact. They will continue to grow for one to two weeks if placed in tap water and bright light in your house.
-
The hydroponic systems at Cal Poly Pomona are grown in a greenhouse thus cutting down on pests and pesticides. Beneficial insects are used as a first response to any pest problems.
-
Hydroponic produce is more sanitary since there is no soil and the environment is stricktly controlled.
