Faculty Learning Community on Assessing Student Response Systems

A Faculty Learning Community Opportunity
for Winter 2008

The Faculty Center for Professional Development and I&IT Learning are cosponsoring a Faculty Learning Community for instructors who wish to integrate the iClicker ® Student Response System into their courses and assess its impact on learning. Dr. Alexander Rudolph, Associate Professor of Physics, will facilitate the learning community with support from the Faculty Center and I&IT Learning staff.

This learning community will focus on using a Student Response System (SRS) to enhance interactive learning in the classroom. Members of the learning community will meet initially for a one-day workshop on Tuesday, December 11, 2007, to begin designing the instructional application of the SRS within their own courses and to develop approaches to learning assessment for the SRS. During winter quarter 2008, three additional learning community meetings will be held for the purpose of sharing experiences and responding to questions in a collaborative manner. The times and days for these meetings will be determined based on the availability of learning community members.

A culminating session will be held in later winter or early spring quarter, 2008, to share the results of learning assessment and to provide general feedback about the use of the SRS in teaching and learning. This feedback will be used to decide on a primary SRS to be supported by the campus.
