In 1996, Cal Poly Pomona established, with matching funds from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the university's first $1 million endowed chair, named for Hugh O. La Bounty, the third president of Cal Poly Pomona.
This endowed Chair is a university-managed fund in which the principal, held in perpetuity, produced income that will be used for providing distinguished visiting professors from academe, business, industry, the arts, and government, to serve as valuable links with the world and expose Cal Poly Pomona students to a variety of experiences, views, and opinions.
The endowed Chair honors La Bounty's commitment to excellence in education during his 38 years of service at Cal Poly Pomona.
