The Investigating Teaching & Learning (ITaL) Faculty Learning Community is our most intense FLC. For the past three years, ITaL Fellows have designed and implemented a scholarship of teaching project in one of their courses. The ITaL class of 2009-2010 will be the fourth ITaL group. ITaL Fellows have worked on a range of classroom issues including (but not limited to):
- Motivating students to read
- Active learning strategies in a variety of situations
- Online tools and tutorials for a variety of situations
- Incorporating images into traditionally text-based classes
- Mental models for abstract concepts
- Adding voluntary credit hours to a curriculum
- Laptop policies and results of laptop usage in classes
- Engaging students in classes by motivating them to prepare better for classes
The Faculty Center would like to thank the Advance program for providing funding for some ITaL participants in the STEM disciplines.
