Interested in becoming an elementary
teacher in multicultural California?
One of the best kept secrets in
elementary teacher education in Southern California is the
GEMS (Gender, Ethnicity and Multicultural Studies) program at
Cal Poly Pomona. Students who wish to pursue a multiple
subject credential to teach in California can do so by
selecting one of three GEMS options (see program). Courses
meet the subject matter and other standards of the CTC and
equip students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to
work in California’s diverse classrooms. Call the Department
