Thanks to generous sponsorship from General Atomics, a design competition for high school students and community college students was offered this year at the College of Engineering at Cal Poly Pomona.
Current and past students that took Principles of Engineering (POE) Project Lead The Way courses were invited to enter the competition, with up to three members per team. In all, fifteen teams from high schools and community colleges participated in the competition.
Ten teams from local High Schools and five teams from local Community Colleges traveled to Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday, May 7, 2011 for POE Design Competition. Each team created “machines” to drop a ping pong ball in a specific “cup” randomly located on a black surface. All teams used a variety of sensors strategically located on their machines to locate the position of the cup.
