The Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering (IME) Department was honored during the National Engineer's Week, Feb. 20-26, 2011, with three awards given to a faculty, alumnus, and two current students.
Awards included The Outstanding Engineering Educator Award, and the Young Engineer Award by the Orange County Engineering Council (OCEC), and The First Place in Technical paper Competition at the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) Western regional Conference.
Dr. Kamran Abedini, Professor of Industrial Engineering, and Parmeet Kohli, graduate of the IME department (2007) were presented their awards at the annual banquet of OCEC. Benjamin Tran and Hans Wibisono, Senior IME students represented Cal poly Pomona at the conference alongside the other IIE western region university students invited (USC, ASU, UC Berkeley, University of San Diego, Washington State University, Oregon State University, San Jose State University, Cal Poly SLO, New Mexico State, etc.). The paper which was presented by Ben Tran on warehouse process optimization at Unical Aviation received the first place at the event and qualified him to compete at the international conference in Reno in May with the winners of other twelve regions.
