The Civil Enigneering Department was host to the Pacific Southwest Conference (PSWC) and competition of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). The event was organized by the ASCE student chapter, under the supervision of Dr. Seema Shah-Fairbanks. The students and organizing team worked hard for the past eighteen months to ensure a successful conference. Eighteen universities from five states participated with about 1,000 registrations. The students managed to fund raise over $120,000 for the event.

Cal Poly Pomona ended up first and second in many events and came in first overall. The CE student /teams scored in the most relevant of the PSWC competition/events were:

• Concrete Canoe – 2nd place
• Steel Bridge – 6th place
• Technical Paper – 2nd place
• Geotechnical – 1st place
• Environmental – 1st place
• Surveying – 1st place
• Impromptu – 1st place (communications/writing based event)

The Concrete Canoe team is now preparing to compete in the ASCE National conference.
