On June 19, at the Outstanding Staff Awards Luncheon, Mark Bailey of the College of Engineering was one of four Cal Poly Pomona staff members to receive the Outstanding Staff Award for 2008.

Mark, from the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, has contributed to the Cal Poly Pomona Community for 34 years following his graduation from CPP in Electrical Engineering. He is described by his colleagues as hardworking, dedicated, and a “gem without whom the university simply would not shine.”

Mark is the Safety Coordinator for the College of Engineering as well as overall Building Marshall for Buildings 9, 13, and 17. It is also noteworthy that he has served on the Commencement Committee for 18 years. His commitment to setting up tens of thousands of chairs for a variety of campus graduations must set a record.

The Engineering Open House and most other college events would not run without Mark’s diligent oversight. Mark has advised the Radio Club, and he aids dozens of students in their senior projects. Thank you, Mark! You are truly outstanding!
