| To: All Commencement Participant, Spring 2007 From: Dean's Office Subject: Commencement Ceremony – Saturday, June 9, 2007, 4:00 PM Please Keep This Information for Reference. This year the College of Engineering will be conducting its Commencement Ceremony for 800 graduates, 100 faculty members and 8,000 guests. The ceremony will be held on the Quad and the procession will begin at 4:00 PM. Itemized below is specific information regarding your responsibilities for the ceremony. Commencement caps and gowns should be purchased at the Bronco Bookstore. 1. Graduates and faculty will line up for the Processional beginning at 3:00 PM. The procession will form on Mansion Lane beginning at University Drive. Graduates will check in at the registration table located at the intersection, where each will receive a card with the graduate's name and address on it; graduates need to retain the card, since it will be turned in later to assist in announcing each name. If a graduate has a difficult name to pronounce, he/she should write it phonetically on the card to assist the readers. Graduates will line up behind their appropriate program banner. Faculty marshals will assist in forming the Processional and the order of march. Graduates who register after 3:30 PM should not expect to participate in the Processional in the proper order of march. 2. The order of the Processional will be: the Mace Bearer, the College Valedictorian and College Banner; the program banners, faculty and graduates; the Stage party; all late-comers. 3. Graduates and faculty will be seated in reserved locations. There is no limit on the number of guests; guests will be seated behind the graduates in open seating. Physically challenged guests may sit in a convenient area. 4. When requested to come forward, the graduates and the faculty will be directed to one side of the stage. The graduates will line up in single file as directed by the faculty/staff marshals along the side aisles. Immediately before proceeding across the stage, each graduate will hand the card to a reader, who will announce the name of the graduate and any academic honor as the graduate proceeds. Each graduate will walk across the stage, receive a certificate from his/her own department chair, shake hands and return to his/her seat to await the conclusion of the ceremony. 5. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Mace Bearer and the Stage party will exit first. The Recessional will form as directed by the ushers and will proceed away from the Commencement Site along the same path. While this is a celebration, it is also a traditional and dignified ceremony, a rite of passage. Please remember to conduct yourself in a manner befitting the celebration; the time for partying is after the formal ceremony. The Faculty of the College of Engineering thanks all participants for their cooperation.
