Over the past year, the number of proposal submissions
has increased by 30% and the amount requested
has
increased by over 200%.
To assist the dean’s office and the department chairs in reviewing institutional commitments to submitted proposals, it is recommended that the PIs submit a Concept Assistance Form as early as possible but at least three weeks prior to the proposal deadline. An approved Concept Assistance Form will give the PIs assurance that their proposal has the support of the department and college.
To support faculty members, PIs that follow the deadlines in the COE Guidelines for Proposal Preparation can qualify for Professional Development Assistance (PDA) money. Details about the PDA can be found in the COE Guidelines for Proposal Preparation.
Both the PI and the PI’s home department will receive a portion of the net ICR received by the COE. The percentage of Indirect Cost Recovery (ICR) that is returned to the PI varies depending on the specifics of the grant. In general, approximately 50% of the "net ICR" is returned to the COE and 20% of what the college receives is designated for the PI. ICR is calculated quarterly based on expended funds of an externally funded grant. Currently, the ICR is disbursed 3-5 months after the effective quarter.
