College of Engineering Teaching Awards

Innovation in Teaching Award 
The Innovation in Teaching Award is for tenure-track assistant and associate professors who demonstrate significant promise in teaching and a passion for innovative teaching pedagogies.  To be eligible, faculty members must have at least two years of teaching in the College of Engineering at Cal Poly Pomona. This award is given to a maximum of one recipient each year and includes a $500 stipend.
Nominations for this award should follow the nomination guidelines and demonstrate that the nominee:

  • Is dedicated to excellence in teaching;
  • Applies innovative and effective instructional practices;
  • And is actively engaged in the teaching pedagogy learning communities at Cal Poly Pomona and in his/her discipline.

Outstanding Teaching Award
The Outstanding Teaching Award is to recognize faculty members whose teaching is exceptional and meritorious.  All tenured faculty, tenure-track faculty, and full-time lecturers with a minimum of five years of teaching in the College of Engineering at Cal Poly Pomona are eligible.  This award is given to a maximum of one recipient each year and includes a $500 stipend.  (Previous award winners are ineligible for five years.)
Nominations for this award should follow the nomination guidelines and demonstrate that the nominee:

  • Is dedicated to excellence in teaching over time;
  • Applies effective instructional practices;
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of his/her instructional practices;
  • And shares effective teaching pedagogies with other faculty members. 

Nomination Guidelines
Individual faculty members, departments, or student organizations may present nominations for a teaching award to the College of Engineering Dean’s Office.  The nominations should include the following:

  • A cover letter outlining individual's teaching contributions.
  • One letter of support from current or past students addressing the nominee’s dedication to teaching.
  • One letter of support from Cal Poly Pomona Chair that adress all the criteria of the teaching award.
  • A two-page Teaching Statement by the nominee that reflect his/her teaching philosophy, teaching practices, and methods of evaluating those practices.

Each application package will be reviewed by a faculty award committee.

Timeline
Nomination packages are due on the Friday of 10th week each Winter Quarter by 4 pm to the Dean’s Office. The awards will be announced during the Spring Quarter.
